have it? what is your opinion?

as others here, I dislike Comcast. but going to another service may not prove all that beneficial. I'm looking primarily at Net service, but will consider tele and phone if the package is right.

Hurts like a bastid...

I am in same boat as you. Verizon FiOS is available in my area as an alternative to Charter. Starting to check pros and cons myself.

I have had it for about 3 months now. Just tested it at speakeasy and got 10.8 Mb/s. I am going through a router. Get 15 when pugged directly to the wall. These speed tests are meaningless. Went to another site got anything from 2 to 9 within seconds of each other.

I want it! It will be years before it comes to the middle of nowhere in Iowa.

I've had it for about a year. Works great, (knock on wood), no down-time... try that with cable! No problems, speeds are a little lower than advertised, but my MBP seems to fly on the internet.

I had the 15/2 plan at the house I lived in before my current apartment. It was great, very fast, but the only downside I know of vs. cable is that incoming access to port 80 is blocked with FiOS and not with Comcast cable. So basically you can't host a webpage on port 80 with FiOS, but you can with Comcast cable (which I do, so I will have to look into a work-around when I move again, were I to get FiOS again).

I hear they have a $99 a month deal for FiOS internet, TV and phone service with a 2-year agreement, but this is not available in all areas.

I am paying $125/month for Comcast on two TVs with no premium channels lilke HBO or Cinemax. FiOS right now is only being rolled out in the more affluent communities here in NJ, so I don't know when my little neighborhood will see it.

I already have Verizon for my home/mobile/DSL service and have been pleased with them, so I am eagerly waiting for FiOS. I only live a block from the Verizon CO, so I get pretty speedy DSL right now.
