Thoughts on 2016 VW eGolf not charging

A purchase of a 2016 VW eGolf from a Kia Dealer.

After getting it home, purchaser realizes it does not charge.

Took it to Kia dealer, and used dept head, treated us very nice. They tried it on 120, 240 and the 400 charge. On the 400 for 1 hr only gave 2 miles of travel.

So the Kia dealer offered a loaner car, and said they will send it over to a VW dealer for a look see.

Apparently they (Kia Dealer) is going to cover the cost of fixing...

Fingers crossed.

Among the multitude of statements and questions that immediately come to mind in response to the information you have given I will only say :

<<Apparently they (Kia Dealer) is going to cover the cost of fixing... >>

That's good. Because VW discontinued this model and is trying to get them off the road because they are fraught with expensive problems, even for a VW which in any form can be a gigantic money pit.

Dealer cost on a replacement battery is $25k. Real.

GET YOUR MONEY BACK.

Here's a good place to ask - [www.vwvortex.com]

I can only roll my eyes at someone who declares all VWs are money pits. Car "wisdom" is a fascinating thing.

That said, I have no idea the truth of the situation but I bet owners of these cars do.

These owners seem pretty happy - [www.reddit.com] - of course, its always good to ask what to look out for.

First off, that is the dealer price for an all new replacement battery. Some may still be under warranty, 8 years or 100,000 miles if I am finding the correct one. There are shops that will rebuild the batteries by replacing bad cells for a lot less.

When our Leaf stopped charging, we feared the worst - that the traction battery had had it. Turns out it was only the 12v battery that went toes up. Without it, the computer doesn’t know how to charge the big battery.

Car wisdom IS a fascinating thing. With it you do a solid road test of the vehicle so then it not a BIG SURPRISE after you've signed the docs that you discover the battery is garbage and only charges to 2 miles.

What a joke man.

Again, you can buy a brand new Nissan car with warranty for under $20k.

You understand that dealer price is the price the dealer pays for the part? They mark up from there.

2016 car. 8 year warranty, maybe. PRAY they accept it.

Do you "know the truth" of the VW emissions scandal? How they lied to put more diesels on the road which were puking dirty air anytime they were not idling? I wonder if anyone jailed on that deal is out.

It can cost $7500 real world money to rebuild a VW transmission.

Easy now, chopper just had a very bad experience with a battery charger so his fear of EVs is understandable.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

Trying to put this back on track to answer the OP...

When I checked online, that make and model EV was not super fast to charge. Not a super big deal as it had ~100 mile range when new.

But if you can get this technical issue sorted out, reports say it's a fun car to drive.

And has been anti-EV since forever apparently based on past posts. Also is not beyond basically making things up or exaggerating some piece of information seen on the internet.
