I’ve always felt loyal to my credit union because it’s treated me so well over the years. That being said, their interest rates on deposits are almost on-existent.

I suspect this is a generational thing, although my wife still has a strange allegiance to the credit union in her home town.

In my experience, credit unions aren't competitive with interest rates and some electronic features that are rather commonplace. (Zelle and similar)

You need a 'Yes' option. I do all of the above...and more.

Two different credit unions. And one has a money market account that pays around 5% interest. I also have an Apple Card that has a savings account with 4.something% interest.

Fritz,

You also need an option for a brokerage account that can double as a checking/savings account, i.e. like those offered by Fidelity and Schaub.

One thing I've noticed with credit unions and smaller, regional and local financial institutions is they often lag behind national/international banks when it comes to web site design and features. That's an issue in this day and age and especially so if there are a limited number of branches.

For example, Amalgamated Bank, a smaller bank with just a handful of branches that are primarily in the five boroughs of NYC, has an _awful_ web site and it lags significantly behind the big players. Unfortunately, a couple of family members for whom I do banking tasks have accounts with Amalgamated. Working with the site makes me want to grind my teeth and pull my hair out.

Oh, there is kind of a 3rd answer, you can use a brokerage account as a checking account. You can get a debit card and checks. Very competitive interest rates, its been near 5% but I'm assuming its probably 4.5% now. Thats even on what you have in 'checking' which is kept in a money market fund. The downside is no FDIC insurance. I guess its up to you whether its worth the risk, more info on that - [www.investopedia.com]

Oh, I use Fidelity for this. I know Vanguard offers similar features but they can kind of be a pain to deal with.

Matt,

Definitely needs to be included as an option. Fidelity, Vanguard, Schwab, etc. All of the brokerage houses offer accounts that can serve as a checking/savings account.

I voted credit union, but for my small business I use the local Mercantile bank. I had a Chase business account for years and then they started closing all the nearby branches, three in my county alone. There's only one left somewhat nearby, about 18 miles away. Mercantile is our only bank in town so I switched for the convenience a couple of years ago.

to me, brokers are still commercial banks, TD, Schwab, they're commercial for profit enterprises.

We have both commercial and credit union as well as online - with today's changing interest rates you need diversity.

Oh, I use Fidelity for this. I know Vanguard offers similar features but they can kind of be a pain to deal with.

We're with Fidelity and used our brokerage account as you note. But we have recently become more concerned about fraud even with 2FA. So a couple of weeks ago we added a new account. The old brokerage account had all of our taxable investments and money. We used it for everything--taxable investments, money in (pension and SS as well as checks scanned into the account), billpay, pulls from outside organizations (largely the IRS and GA Dept. of Revenue), and debit card use. When I opened the new account, I moved all the investments as well as extra cash into the new account. The old one is now used strictly as a bank account and is isolated from the rest of our investments. I also locked all the accounts so that money can't leave without one of us unlocking them. That way if a nefarious character somehow gets into our account by hacking the IRS, for example, they can only get the small amount that's left in the original brokerage account-basically it's enough for bills for the month.

We also have an account with Wells Fargo (I know they're basically a criminal organization!) for local needs as well as an account at a credit union for my wife's eBay activities.

Please send me all your money so I can try out all of those choices and see what works best.

After I figure out the best choices, and I’m 100% certain, I’ll let you know, and will return what’s
left in the various accounts, plus any pro-rata interest/dividends/other gains will be distributed
equally, regardless of which accounts generated the ROI.

Prospectus will be sent upon expression of interest in investing.

Mahalo.
