Boot Drive on Win 11 died, will I need a new key

A friend's PC had it's hard drive with WIndows 11 installed on it die. Will they need to purchase a new Win 11 key to reinstall on a new replacement HD?? Or will the installer recognize that this machine previously had Win 11 activated on it and not require a new key?

It is supposed to stash the key somewhere, BIOS I think. So no, you should not need to enter the key.

If the PC came with Windows, the key should be printed on a sticker on the bottom of the PC or at least it has been on every computer I have had in the past twenty years.
