How Get Rid of Fake Virus Notices?

Just started getting fake notifications of viruses and trojans. Free Malwarebytes doesn't find anything. Shutting down and restarting doesn't get rid of them. How do I?

How are you receiving these notifications?

Safari -> Settings -> Websites -> Notifications

Personally I would set all of them to "Deny" or delete them and then uncheck the box that allows websites to ask.

I just helped my mother with this issue yesterday. She was getting "McAfee has expired..." type notifications every few minutes.

Thanks Mark! Just did what you suggested.

BTW, in my version (Monterey) Safari (17.6) has 'Preferences', not 'Settings'.

Just free Malwarebytes, which I'm pretty sure was recommended here—some years ago, of course.

As Markintosh shared, these are most likely being delivered through the browser but made to look like system messages. Following his directions should stop them. Since they are essentially webpages, Malewarebytes won't detect them.

This is how I roll.

I hate there isn't a checkbox that says Never allow websites to ask, because unchecking that box still allows them to ask.

Once I click Deny I never get asked again.

Safari Preferences > Websites has a long list of sites I've denied.
