So long Freehand...

Looks like mighty Adobe finally let the cat out of the bag. No more Freehand or updates...ever. Glad I finally switched to Illustrator a few years back.

While I personally prefer AI over FH, its a shame that the competition will go away. maybe Adobe will sell FH to someone else.

GoLive is next. Dead app walking. GoLive is scheduled for 1 more update before being EOL'ed. That'll give Adobe time to "Adobe-ize" Dreamweaver.

Freehand had its supporters, especially when it came to bezier points/curves. I started with Illustrator 88 and never looked back.

I think FH handles Strokes and Fills better... Not to mention, blends... Now, Illustrator is very very nice in other features... I do hope the sell off freehand soon...

I wish they'd at least adopt the good stuff out of freehand.

I loved the fact that it handled multiple pages so you could create multiple logos version in asingle document instead of spread all over a 11x17 .

That's 1 out of 100 of the thing sthey should consider.

you can do that 3p - set up the artboard/document to the size you want... say, 17 wide by 22 tall as example. when you go under the 'print' menu, click 'setup' (it's in the box on the left) and the tiling option will appear - choose 'tile full pages', and make sure your origin point is at 0 and 0.

if you are set up for 8.5 x 11 paper in this basic example, you'll have a 4 page set up.

when i do multiple layouts for a presentation, exporting multiple pages as one pdf document is a breeze.

Well, In FreeHand I could design a business card at size, an denvelope at asize and leterhead at size in the same document. The exported PDF had all different page sizes.

Nice and clean.

And that's 95% of what I use FH & AI for. I took a class in each about a decade ago. Some here have helped me with my issues with AI. I switched to AI when CS2 came out, though I had used it quite a bit in the previous 10 years.

It'd be nice if they just implemented those features in AI. The multiple page sizes would be nice too.

Pity, been with that app for almost 20 years and AI never came close to it. Hopefully they will sell it on.

Huge loss for me, since I spend well over 90 percent of my time in FreeHand, drawing maps. Not only do I much prefer how FreeHand does things, but Illustrator has no way to do multiple pages from the same drawing, as in setting up a multipage atlas from a single large map.

I use a plugin to get multiple pages in Illustrator, called, well, Multipage. They are all the same size though.

Multiple pages simply don't belong in illustration programs, which are for single illustrations or other art elements; that's part of the reason I disliked Freehand – it not only had multiple pages, but they could each be a unique size. WTF?
