Women finish 1,2 in Bay to Breakers Run.

Of course they were given four minutes and forty seconds headstart. Silly stuff. Gees I used to love that race up until so many people started just walking the course to be there. My brother would have won it way, way back before it was such a big deal but an idiot race official pointed him right when he was supposed to turn left for the finish line at the Ocean.

The event is still big fun though particularly for the first timers. It was my first race a lifetime ago and for days I was walking on air.

I agree with the problems of too many walkers. The last time I ran, it took me almost 10 minutes to get past all the walkers even though I started about 40 yards from the starting line.

I always positioned or shoved myself to near the front to eliminate that problem. After the first two miles I would be ahead of the cheaters and slow ones near the front. I loved going into the park where it was downhill from there to the wonderful finish line on the beach. I love it when you finish a race and everybody is a friend. Then of course the obligatory brewskis to restore electrolytes. Gatorade? To celebrate? Not.
