After all the hemhawing (aka Research) I have a new iMac G5!

Got rid of my Quadra 800 last week (most useless Mac I owned at the time) and now have a new Apple Store (local) purchased iMac G5 1.8, combo-drive 512MB, 160 GB, BT, airport, etc.

Machine Name: iMac G5
Machine Model: PowerMac8,2
CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 512 MB
Bus Speed: 600 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.2.5f1

They had it for $799 in-store. Everything is brand new as far as I can tell. NOTHING any different. All in new shrink wrappings, etc. This is the same model I was GOING to buy tomorrow on the Apple Store on-line for $849.

This post is the first thing I have done with it so far. COOL!

17" is pleny big enough. I was debating on the 20", but for another $350, it's just not worth it. I'll span this monitor with the adapter that I also just bought , ALSO on sale for $5 off the regular $19.

SO, they said I could go on-line and get a free upgrade to iLife '06. Anyone know where/how? I have not checked, yet.

That way, I can ensure my external sony 'might' work with iApps. smiling smiley

I'm surprised I can here the fan go up/down in this right now. Never noticed that before. It came with the previous mouse, not the mighty mouse. I wanted this one for the ease of HD upgrade and the TWO memory slots. So far, so good.

Isn't it wonderful to get what you wanted at a great price?

Thanks to the release of the new Intel Macs, I guess the remaining G5s in stock are going to be closed out at attractive prices.

I'm sure you will feel as if you've parked your butt in a Ferrari compared to the Quadra.

Anyway, LEADER! and enjoy your new baby.

Sitting here watching the software update.

Is PAGES supposed to be on these?

Plus, OS 9 (Classic) is installed, too. COOL.

No, unless it is just a trial version. Pages is not part of iLife . . .

Wow.... that would have really caused me some serious indecision if I had to choose between that and the $323 Mini that I just got.

Good deal.

So... can you start Folding with it under my name - for 48057?

Thanks in advance!

Jimmypoo,

I have no idea what folding is, or how to do it, but if you pay me enough SURE I WILL. I have eight macs. Do they make an OS 8.1 version, a 9.2 version and so on?

"SO, they said I could go on-line and get a free upgrade to iLife '06. Anyone know where/how? I have not checked, yet."

Looks like it's not free, but close: $9.95: go here [www.apple.com] and click on 'Download the order form'

Glad you posted the above as I ordered a refurb iMac that shipped on 01/10/06 (the day iLife '06 was announced) and thought that since it didn't ship with '06 [wasn't holding my breath] I was out-of-luck. After reading your post today, I decided to call Apple to find out if I could get a free upgrade and the rep gave me the above link.
