I'll have it 1-1/4 thumbs up. Overall, I would watch it again. However, way too many villains.

The origin of the Spidey suit and Venom was really weak.

Otherwise, it was- ok.

But I won't be buying the DVD.

It was too long, over 2 hours. That is too long for a movie geared for kids. There were a lot of young children in the audience that became restless and noisy. I wouldn't sit through it again.

The origin of the Spidey suit and Venom was really weak.

I had quit reading the comic book by the time the Venom storyline started but, I agree, it was a pretty weak origin. A meteor drops out of the sky with an alien blob? Why didn't it just start eating people and trap Steve McQueen in a diner? Considering how they smartly updated Spidey's origin to incorporate genetic engineering instead of radioactivity, they could have done much better than this. And the mushy stuff was painful to sit through. My daughter and I kept saying "more fighting, more fighting."

Yeah, the Secret Wars origin of the Venom suit was much better. But a meteor was quicker!

They'd have to have a whole Spidey mini-series just to explain the Secret Wars!

Mmmmmm.....mini-series....

My brother and I hashed out a decent way to get Venom into Spidey#3 with respect for the comic-origin in under 5 minutes.

That Sam Raimi couldn't figure out a way to do it suggests to me that either a) Sam Raimi has died and been replaced by a robot like they did with Ronald Reagan and Dick Cheney or b) He has been kidnapped by aliens and a Hollywood committee has been covering it up by attempting (and failing) to do his job for him.

There simply is no other explanation. ;)
