White MacBook, 2.0GHz Core Duo, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD, Superdrive - $700

Deal or No Deal?

Should I consider Applecare for ~$175? Bumping RAM?

Very good deal. I'd buy it. Make sure it's eligible for AppleCare first-check serial number with Apple's support website, first.

You can get Applecare on ebay for about $150.

Try it without the additional RAM first--unless you're doing video, or running a ton of PPC applications, it's probably enough.

For a NON-Core2Duo, that $$$ sounds about right.

OS X is a major user of Virtual Memory these days, and with OWC now having RAM at $97.xx for a 2GB kit, I would definitely do it.

If it were $239, I'd probably say wait, unless your apps were of the sort....

But with Superdrive and 1GB, that's good $$. Just make sure you get the little extras that came with like the remote (do MacBooks have one? I know MBPs do) and both attachments for the power supply. I don't know what else is in the box for MBs vs MBPs.

It's a great little machine. I am more impressed with this move to Intel every time I use one.

It is likely eligible for AppleCare since they were introduced May 16, 2006---but it should be checked as mentioned above.

I have bought used laptops, and the owner didn't know they were covered with extended AppleCare-the serial number will tell you.

I found it on Craigslist. I posted a "Want a MacBook" ad, the guy contacted me...

It is eligible for Applecare through the end of June. I'm looking for a deal on eBay - just missed a bunch at $139...

Thanks,

Cary
