Most people spend $2500 on a machine and hold it for 6 years. Then you get $100 for it and spend another $2500. I spend no more than $300-400 a year and I always have a near current machine. Most of the time, I can sell my old machine for the price of the new one so it costs nothing at all to stay current.

It's already out of warranty. My goal is not necessarily to get a faster machine
(although I will), but to protect my original investment.
