Quick Mastercard question...
Posted by: Rick-o

I placed an order May 26th (sat) and the company charged my card immediately on the following monday. The two item order was for slightly over $1000. and have yet to be shipped. Website states orders shipped in 2-3 days.

I was under the impression that an online seller couldn't charge my card until order was shipped. Is this true?

As far as I know, depends on the policy of the seller and has nothing to do with any laws. For instance, Amazon does not charge in advance for products it sells, but does for third-party merchants selling through them.

Rick-O,

Nopes. The policy is determined by the seller, not the credit card company. A seller can charge you the moment you hit the "okay" button when you place an order. Typically, most online sellers do not charge you until they've actually shipped the order. I won't do business wiith a company that charges and then ships at a later time.

However, I do think there is a federal law that if the company promises shipment within a certain time that they have to actually meet that time frame.

I would call the place and ask them to give you an update on your order.

Ok, thanks for all the replies. I do quite a bit online shopping and very rarely have a problem.

I'm waiting on a sales rep who is checking my order via online chat at this very moment. We'll see what's going on. (I've been out of town for the last week and got home to find out my order hadn't been shipped)

Hmm...Out of stock, but rep says shipment coming in next thursday and items will ship ASAP. I could have taken a substitute color and shipped earlier, but I decided to wait.

I like websites that show real time inventory. I probably would have went elsewhere if I had known they were out of stock. (probably why they don't do real time).
