BitTorrent and subtitle question
Posted by: TiUser

Hi, I've downloaded a foreign film and the file came with an avi file and a srt file. The avi file opened fine in QuickTime, but there was no subtitles. Is the srt file a subtitle file? If that is the case, how can I watch the file and see the subtitle? Thanks for the help.

Yes, the srt is the subtitle file.

There may be an easier way, but the VLC player will load and display subtitles.

Free, open-source,

Remember to load the subtitle file BEFORE opening the video file.

VLC will do the business, but if you want the subs hardcoded then you are gonna need to use Windows, none of the Mac options work very well.

The problem is the lame AVI container. This is typical of Windows-based junk. AVI doesn't provide any native support for subtitle tracks, etc.:

If you want integrated subtitles, you'll need to get the video in a modern container format like MP4.

VLC did the trick. Thanks all.
