Video in PPT: For both Mac and PC?
Posted by: SteveO

Sorry, I STF but couldn't find an answer. What video format is best for use in PowerPoint on both Mac and PC? The final PPT will be sent to several people, some of whom will likely have Macs.

Thanks!

Since everyone in their right mind will have installed iTunes (and thus QuickTime) by now, it no longer really matters.

The "safest" format is probably MPEG-1, but that may make your PP presentation unwieldy and larger than you intended. Check first.

not in a corporate environment.

we have over 800 people on our campus, and as far as i know, I am the only one Mac or PC, that has iTunes. Making such a huge sweeping generalization leads to mistakes. mpeg-4 is probably safest. But test it first on a PC. Adding video to PPT and playing on a mac is far easier than on a PC.

mpeg-1 is my fallback at work still, even though it can be huge.
