If the ATT plan is close to what I pay now for data with ATT--I am in. I pay the unlimited SmartPhone rate $20/month--I will bite even at $30, but I have to think twice at $40.

I already have the case and the screen protector, and I an off contract--so I am ready. I also have the option of selling it when Rev 2 comes out since we are on a family plan, and my parents are off contract, and do not want or need an iPhone. I can use one of there contracts if needed.

I'll have a very long wait, I average about 20 minutes per month on a prepaid TracFone, so I won't be getting an iPhone until it becomes the free phone from TracFone. I'm not holding my breath.

Our Cingular contract is up.... so this is tempting....

Might wait for rev1, tho (isn't the first revision called rev1?)

Probably not until at least the 2nd or 3rd generation.

I thought the original 5GB iPod was over priced for what it was, and feel the same way about the iPhone.

But I've now owned or purchased as gifts 6 iPods (shuffle to 60GB Video), so there is hope for me eventually :}

No. Too high priced and the only reason I have a cell phone is to call. Don't care about games, tunes, photos, video, walking the dog or anything else. My old Nokia works great, small, cheap 29.00 month full service...... and I'm very happy with my current phone.

The price of the phone doesn't bother me too much, but the cost of the service and data plan will likely keep me away for awhile.

ATT is the worst in terms of service here. Verizon has the best coverage and so, no iphone for me.

I'm too cheap to pay for anything other than voice service.

I will be getting an iPhone, hopefully at launch. I paid this much for an iPod, and 3/4 this much for my treo, as long as voice/data combined is less than $60, it's a no brainer for me.

But with a newborn baby I don't think I'll be wading through any insane lines at the AT&T or Apple store, so hopefully they are more readily available than most are expecting.

Another vote for Rev 2...maybe. For the reasons others have already stated. The price of the phone doesn't bother me at all. But the missing features do + ATT data is a rip off at EDGE speed ( roughly equivalent to ISDN. Worthless to me). I'm happy w/ my Sprint Treo 700p w/ $15 month unlimited data.

Count me in.

My wife is in Japan on a business trip, so this will be a great time to make the purchase.

Count me out. Considering I just got my 1st iPod a month ago (and it was a previous generation refurb), to say I am not an early adopter is an understatement. To be honest, the cost is another huge factor for me. Just not practical at this time.

I was 99% sure that I was going to get one, but after talking with Verizon, they gave me a deal too good to pass up. I recently finished a 2 year contract with them and called to ask how number transferring works (meaning, how I keep my cell # when I switch carriers) and they said that they would send me 2 phones (Motorola K1M), 2 car chargers, 2 travel chargers and 2 months free, I decided to stay. The K1M syncs with my contacts, but not with iCal (for now) but instead of paying $1200 for 2 rev 1 iPhones, I got 2 phones with GREAT coverage and GREAT voice quality (compared to my Treo 650) for free, and I saved about $250 on my monthly bills.

I know that the iPhone does things no other phone does and is absolutely drool-worthy, but the way Apple does things, when version 2 comes out with (things that I hope it has) GPS/removable battery/higher storage capacity, I will be on the bandwagon then.

Waaaaaay too expensive. Even though I'm free to leave my current carrier (Cingular, now ATT) my Treo 650 does more than I need. Hell, I'm writing this on my Pismo and, my desktop machine is a Dual Boot, Dual 1.25 GHz G4 MDD. Throw in Apple's abandoning Firewire on the iPod line (I expect the iPhone will follow and, only work on USB2) and, I just don't see a reason to buy. As much as it would be nice to upgrade my computers and phone, there's not enough benefits in upgrading to justify the cost.

I am never an early adopter. Never had vers 1 of anything. This time I will be throwing caution to the wind. I have some extra money and will be waiting in line at my local Applestore on the 29th.

I thought this was the "I'm getting an iPhone" thread.

Not the whiny "It's too expensive!" thread, or the "cell phones are stoopid!" thread.

I'm waiting until the second generation before I seriously consider getting it. Right now, I just lust after it with the unwashed masses.

If they got rid of the telephony, bumped up the capacity and called it an iPod I would be so there.

I'm in.

EDIT: and if the 2nd gen one is as magical and wondrous as you non-iPhone owners imagine and makes the first one look like a hunk of junk, I'll just sell my original iPhone as used at 3/4ths the price to one of you poor fools.

Bragging rights ALONE * make this phone worth TWICE its price. I make my main living as an Apple specialist. I guarantee having an iPhone will bring me new business. Probably more than I can handle.

*and I'm not even counting BABE FACTOR here, people!

Nope, probably never will. I'm not a technophobe by any means, but my preference is to be less connected to the world. I hate cellphone and begrudgingly carry one for emergency outgoing calls only--most of the day it is OFF. I can't even get into the iPod --I've bought 3 so far and have never used one yet; thank goodness the rest of the family appropriated them.

Well, we know that the upcoming iPods must be at least 95 percent of what an iPhone is. Already have phones I like. I'm sure most of us would be fine with that.

I would absolutely get one if ATT provided coverage in my area.

My wife has a trac phone and carries over minutes every year. I want an iPhone and will have one, someday. I still do not know what the monthly membership is.

I'm in. I got a demo a few weeks ago by the iPhone project manager at Apple (on his prototype). He said he had been using his prototype for 1.5 years. It was very cool.

...in a thread that specifically addresses people other than them.

"I'm/Who's" is not "I'm not/Who's not...", for the impaired.

I am planning on it, pending the cost of the data plans. And I've *never* made a purchase for bragging rights. Something either works for *me*, or it doesn't.

I'm in. Most likely for 2. My son is almost as much a technogeek as I am, and I can't get one for just me. I've got to get one for him too. It will be a very early xmas present for him, though. Especially since I may have stumbled onto (manna from heaven, karma if you will) a way to get an employee's discount on the purchase of both iphones. I won't believe it until I see it though, as it sounds too good to be true. And, probably is. I'll let you know after the fact if it works out.
