Question about purchasing a matteress topper.
Posted by: RonT
Date: June 26, 2007 04:03PM
The wife and I are considering purchasing a memory foam matteress topper and wonder if anyone out there can give us an idea about density. Amazon is currently offering the following:

Ortho-pedic Contour Pillow With This Soft Sleeper 6.5 Queen 3 Inch Memory Foam Mattress Pad Topper, Orthopedic Contour Pillow Made From 100% Visco Elastic Memory Foam - $119.99 w/free shipping. Link: [tinyurl.com]

Which seems sounds like what we'd consider a good buy. However, the 6.5 figure, which I'm assuming is the density, has me wondering if it'd be too firm? Any thoughts, comments, about the density, brand or whatever would really be appreciated.

TIA

I could use one of these but my bed is a twin and I wonder if you can get one in a smaller size?

don't know about that particular one. If you haven't already, check out Overstock's selection as well as costco, if you have a membership--I hear they sometimes carry good deals on this sort of thing.

try overstock.com to compare. some great deals w/low shipping costs.

i can't say what the 6.5 means, but the one my mom-in-law got suits her fine.

I got the one from costco. It has 2.5 " of foam and a 2.5 inch down topper. I was not sure I was going to like it but now I find it hard to sleep anywhere else. I have actually put on weight due to the topper. It just sucks you in for naps and tv watching.

I bought one for my mom on mothers day and she loves hers also.

The one caveat is that the topper slides around the bed. If you sleep in the center or there are 2 of you, then it will be fine. If you are a one side sleeper then the topper tends to shift and needs adjusting.

The costco return policy was the reason I bought from them.

two of the contour pillows. Very Comfy

IIRC, there are two factors, and density is only one of them.

IIRC, that's a bit on the firmer side. But this stuff gives, so it may be ok.

I have that topper without the down pad on top. It is amazing how well I like it. I have a bad hip, and I can't sleep in a normal bed anymore. But with the topper, not a problem. The Costco one is about 5 on the firmness. I recall something from consumer reports saying about 5 or more firmness, and 3 or more inches thick. the 2.5" from costco suits me just fine.

it will slide, but I got a few rolls of the shelf anti-slip stuff from the local dollar store, and laid it down between the pad and the matress, and that helps a lot.

Once or twice a year, Costco has the toppers with a $30 off coupon in their coupon books. last one was Xmas or early this year. Due again in the next book most likely. can't recall if it is in the current book (I am at work)
