Booting with external drive????

Working with Tibook 500 10.3.9 External drive mounts easily.

Using SuperDuper to back up to firewire external drive. Backup completes successfully and says it is bootable.

I restart holding option key. Internal drive shows, watch spins looking for external drive. Lights on external drive do not flicker. Just sits there.

Startup drive system pref shows the backup volume as bootable. When I select it and restart, I get a grey sceen and no apple. Just sits.

Cleaned up system with applejack and redid backup. Same problems.

Any ideas????

Thanks . . .

If you do a "get info" on the drive, is "Ignore privileges on this volume" checked or unchecked?

Unchecked. Read/write privileges are OK.

Shirtpocket (SuperDuper) suggested that the noname external box is the issue, as it might not be Oxford chipset. Since everything else is working, I think this might be it.
