I've got one we purchased for my work setup about 3 years ago. After being inactive for a month, I came back to work and the drive inside is no longer recognized. So i figured it was the drive. Took it out and put another one in. Same thing. Tried a FW800, FW400 and USB cable to try to get it to be recognized. No dice. Does that sound like the enclosure? Just wanted to make sure before I pick up a new one.

Call their Customer Support line... even though it is 3 years old they'll probably take a min to troubleshoot... and then when it's determined it is bad, they'll transfer you to buy a new one!

Are you sure your Firewire ports are functioning normally? Do you have other enclosures, spare cables, and another computer you can use to determine what's at fault?

Info on the system would help. Did you recently install 10.4.10? There are reports of FW problems following that update.

Its a fresh install of 10.4.10 on a new (to me) MacPro.

I tired both FW400 and 800 ports. I also tried the USB port. And the 2 hard drives.

its unusual for them to die but it can happen.

does the drive spin up? if not, it could be the power supply.

yup. both drives spin up. i tried with the case open so i could hear the drives.

If it doesn't work on USB, it's probably the enclosure.

Is there any damage to the ATA cable in the enclosure?
