Cheap, Natural Grub Control...& Safe for Pets!

Hey, I know that many of us these days are concerned about what we put down on our yards as many times it can affect our pets plus our whole ecosystem. I did some googling and came across this stuff called Milky Spore. It is a natural organism that kills several kinds of grubs and it only takes ONE or at most TWO applications to keep your yard free of them for at least 10 years. (Ten years is what the maker says, but from what I've read elsewhere, I think it is permanent.)

The grubs eat this, then they die. When they die, those spores within their bodies multiply which creates even more spores that kill yet more grubs. The spores stay in your soil dormant until activated by some grubs eating them. How cool is that?

Best of all, it is safe for pets, birds, etc. I don't even think it kills earthworms. Pretty cool. No, I don't have any financial interest in the product other than it's CHEAP on many levels vs. applying toxic pesticides every dang year and risking your own health and that of your pets. About $20-$25 to treat 2500 sq. ft. I ordered the granules to use in my spreader for $42 shipped which treats 7k sq ft. Your local feed or hardware store may also carry this uber cool product. Here are some links:

Amazon also carries it, as does eBay, etc. Hope this helps!

If you have pets, dont forget the nematodes, they'll kill fleas, too.

Hey, cool, I didn't know the nematodes killed fleas! Do they also kill ticks and mosquitos?

I think they only kill insects that live in or on the ground, so your mosquitoes will be safe.

I have two Redheaded Woodpeckers that work the lawn over for grubs.

We have a natural control for grubs in our yard too.

Moles dig for the grubs. And aerate the lawn. And put in natural speed bumps so the kids can't run too darn fast, and can't ride bicycles on the grass.

Chihuahuas dig for the moles. Catch and kill the slow moving (older) ones, thus improving the breed. Yard gets aerated and dethatched by the digging.

Chihuahuas present us with the dead moles (Apparently they don't taste good). We say (depending on the recipient) "Good doggie" or "Icky !".

Dead Moles get buried in deep end of the compost heap, or tossed into the backyard of the neighbor that annoys us for their little dogs / kids to find.

Chihuahuas get exercise and much instinctive behavior reinforcement, and are fulfilled and happy little doggies. They're fixed, so there is no genetic benefit. However they do snuggle up in bed better when they're tired.

No they won't, Judi feeds them! smiling smiley

My neighbor Judi who is a wildlife artist is very sympathetic to the local critters and feeds the crows, squirrels, birds and any stray cats in the neighborhood. There's also a family of skunks (I think they live under my shed) that she's been feeding. So see, the skunks are safe.

Yeah, but they have MOLE-BREATH!

;)

I wish I had moles! Or skunks! Then I wouldn't have to worry about the dang grubs.
