Mercury on the Go won't power up

I just ordered/received one of these to free up my iBook's hard drive:
[eshop.macsales.com]

Supposed to be plug and play, no? It doesn't power/spin up when connected, and disk utility can't see it.

Thanks for any advice.

Are you using FW or USB.

USB may not have enough power to run the drive.

Sorry folks, I tried posting this multiple times and got a braindead message each time that said "there was an error in posting your message", and thought it hadn't posted.

Turns out it came with something called "instructions" which informed of a little switch to slide to the "bus powered" position, and alles gut.

HOWEVER it seems clear from the instructions that an AC adapter should be included, and there was none . . .

The AC Adapter is an optional accessory - as noted in the product's purchase description.

Glad the instructions 'fixed' the problem. smiling smiley

See? Last time I look at one of those instruction sheets for anything . . .

I suffer from the same sensitivity that you do. A few nuggets of wisdom were shared with me and I'm "trying" to incorporate them into my life. First, remember that nobody can hurt your feelings unless you let them. You can always reject what is being forced on you emotionally.
Second, nothing changes unless you change it. If you don't want the behavior to be repeated then you need to take action. Otherwise the kid has learned that his behavior is the way to get things done, because everyone lets him get away with it.
In the meantime I sympathize because I've been there.

I hate to admit this, but one of my OWC/Newer ministacks was not powering up. I replaced the internal drive with a known-functioning one. Still nada. Then I looked closely at the back of the thing and realized & remembered that it needed a type B USB connector plugged into it, which came with the unit. A real D - U - H moment.

These things tend to work so reliably that I forget how to configure them, even though I have 8 or 9 of them and swap them around.

RTFM!

tech support top 2 questions for the customer

1. Is it plugged in?
2. Is it turned on?

Um, I don't think roshi was implying that he hadn't plugged it in at all . .

Racer may be right
There is a power switch. Usually off when you get the drive.
