I hate Kodak's "easyshare" software!

It's not "easy" and it doesn't share and it doesn't work and I hate it. I have wasted hours installing, uninstalling, and looking for on-line help and it just doesn't work!

I bought a Kodak Easyshare (yeah right) Picture Viewer for a Christmas present for my mom and all I wanted to do was load the pictures on the built-in memory, but it just won't work. I had read reviews at Amazon that said there were problems with the software and boy were they right. Now my only option will probably be to buy an SD or MMC card that I can plug into the thing and just forget about the internal memory.

I'm going to try calling them tomorrow, but I don't expect any help from there. It's the software not the device. You can't even believe how bad the documentation, or lack thereof, that came with it is. It just shouldn't be that difficult.

Sorry, end of rant. I do feel a little better now, thanks for listening.

I've not had problems with it.

Walt Mossberg of the WSJ gave it a good review.

You have the alternatives of iPhoto and Graphic Converter.

You don't need the Easyshare software.

Get a $10 card reader. If you want to see the photos in the internal memory, just transfer the internal memory to a card via the camera menu and look at the card in the reader.

Or just plug the camera in and see if iPhoto sees it. You MIGHT need a driver, I'm not familiar with too many Easyshare cameras.

PS: I just realized you were talking about a viewer and not a camera. Never mind.

I can't recall specifically what I did Rhonda, but I know I have to create a new folder with a specific name to import the photos into before I could load them onto the viewer. Once I got around that they just loaded automatically.

OMG, Whiip, you actually have one of these things. I'm sending you a PM.

Edit: Thanks Otto. I think a camera would be a lot easier than this thing. All our other cameras are.

iPhoto sees it only as a storage device to import pictures from. It will not let me export or drag and drop to the viewer. It does not show up on the desktop as a device at all. I have tried plugging and unplugging and turning it off and on, no go.

Any suggestions?

And I read the Mossberg article, but I noticed that she was loading from a PC not a Mac, so that may be it. But, I DLed the latest software 5.2 for OS 10.3 and above. I'm running 10.3.7. Ijust don't get it. It should not be this hard.

FWIW, I just bought my folks a Kodak ES z730. I am currently testing it out to see if it will meet their needs. I did not install the Kodak sw. FWIW, I just now plugged in the camera (with the included usb cord) to my PowerBook where it automatically launched iPhoto and let me import the photos onto my PB with no problem and the utmost of ease. All this via the Kodak's INTERNAL MEMORY CARD as I don't have an extra sd card yet. I tried to copy a photo from my iPhoto lib to the cam, though, and I couldn't do it. However, this would probably be possible with an SD card; I think I've done this operation with my Casio digi cam.

Granted, you are trying to work with an ES VIEWER, I know...but I guess I'm confused on what exactly your end-goal is: to share pictures to your mom from your digi camera? Or to have her be able to copy pix from her digi cam to her Mac? Or something else...?

; )

SteveO,
I was trying to load my pics onto the viewer so that my mom could have a digital photo album of my daughter to carry around with her. The problem was that the software would not recognize or mount the viewer. I even went so far as to DL the software for Jag. which is on my husband's eMac to see if it would work with it. Still no go. The Kodak software would recognize my usb card reader and let me upload pics, but it would not mount the viewer. iPhoto would recognize the viewer, but you can't load onto the viewer from iPhoto.

I finally just gave up, boxed it back up, and took advantage of the wonderful return policy at Costco, where I bought it. If it is that buggy, I just don't want to own it. It may have been bad hardware or the cable, I just don't know.

I didn't want to invest any more time with it, so back it went. Thanks for your help, though.

rgG, good for you! I would've done the same! I'll keep an eye out for any mac-friendly viewers. If I see one, I'll pm you.
