help: SPAM sent from my account

or so it seems.

I got some "failure notices" at work, and it appears that someone sent spam messages (Subject: rapacious mating ritual) with my return address. Now I haven't sent anything like this, furthermore, examining the headers, it looks like they were sent by Outlook EXPRESS and I have Outlook "Professional" (part of Office 2003).

What I think happens is that someone somewhere has an infested computer and my address is in their address book. besides ignoring these notices, anything else I can do?

Yup, you've made the bigtime-- your addy is in someone's outlook address book, which has been farmed.
Nothing you can do but set up the smartest possible filters to sanitize the bounce messages, and wait it out.

I've had a few attacks like this recently-- hundreds of messages coming an hour. Eventually they all dry up.

My ISP advised to change my password and it stopped. Don't know if you will get the same or not.

If it makes you feel any better, I had over 4,000 bounced messages day before yesterday. In the past I'd get a couple hundred every now and then.
For years I had my e-mail set up so that anything@myemail.com would get to me. I now have trid to remember all the specific e-mail addresses I've used over the years and have now blocked out all the others.

That's very funny. Those ISP folks have a sense of humor.
