OK, I am ready for the wisecracks but seriously, I want to use a G4 as a NAS. Does it have to be on all the time?

can't you set the sleep preferences to wake up when it senses network traffic?

Has that EVER worked? If so, how? I can't seem to Remote Desktop INTO any Mac on my network that is in sleep mode.

Works here.
EyeHome wakes up the DP1.8 G5 with no problems.

Correct me if I'm wrong but any NAS device is essentally in "sleep" waiting to respond.

The G4 would just be a bigger device doing what a smaller device could do.

I 'm quite certain curly haired G4s dream of having straight hair .

Reverse the direction of any I/O port and you've got some sweet mac action no matter who you ask. Throw in some packet sniffing and you're good to go.

"Oh, your CD won't fit in my floppy"
"We just need a little more lube..."

Remember if you have the password set the machine will wake up for a few seconds then go back to sleep if the password is not entered.
