Why does this look terrible in IE and fine in Safari and Firefox?

I know, it's because IE sucks. It doesn't look so hot in Opera, either.

I'm in the process of updating a web site as a favor, and I want it to look nice. I turned a font into a .gif graphic for the site, but it came out looking nice in Safari and Firefox, but terrible in IE. It's the "A Taste of Austria" text:

Any web designers want to chime in with a better way to make the graphic look the same on each page? (.jpg file instead of .gif maybe?). Thanks!

Okay...I fixed the problem. I was having the browser scale the image, and IE (and Opera) were doing a terrible job. I made the graphic the correct size, and it looks better.
