Took mine in the Apple Store( do NOT go in without prior signup unless you need extra workout). Anyway, the culprit was, drum rolls please.... leaking coolant!. Yes, you heard it right. The leak corroded some electrical contacts. If mine leaked there are probably thousands that did , or will, too. They may have to replace both processors, Ouch!

Sounds like a design flaw.

our g5 2.7 dual is in the shop right now. they initially ran a test that said it wasn't the power supply and was perhaps the CPU or logic board. Now they're saying that they replaced the CPU and it's still not working, so they're going to try a power supply instead. Might hear something back tomorrow. We'll see if that fixes it or not. I've read all about the liquid coolant issues--hope they can figure ours out.

glad mine's not liquid cooled. I always thought that was an accident waiting to happen.

I'm counting on a coolant leak to get a new computer right about the end of the Applecare time limit, 3/09!

The irony is that you got liquid cooling(kind of publicity stunt if you ask me) AND 5(or however many) fans. I hate them constantly going high and low. Rather have a steady hum if I can choose.

I wonder if Commander La Forge could just eject the core for you.
