I can't believe I'm going to ask if this is spam...but maybe I should reply

Okay, I am pretty naive, but I'm smart enough to catch most phishing scams, etc. I've received two e-mails over the past two days:

Yesterday:

>From: Brian Frydenborg <bfry1981@gmail.com>

>hey I was just hoping to confirm that the phone was sent out! :-)

Today:

>From: Brian Frydenborg <bfry1981@gmail.com>

>please confrim thsat you shipped me my phone! :-)

>brian Frydenborg

I've ignored both, and made sure my eBay account is intact (with no recent auctions, etc). I've also checked PayPal and there isn't any recent activity. I figure if I reply to this Brian Frydenborg person (asking what the heck he's talking about), I'll just give some spammer my e-mail address, as I haven't sold anyone a phone recently. Ideas?

won't hurt to just respond with an email.

Maybe you could even turn it around, and ask him "Where is my money?!"

If I respond with an e-mail, then El-Spamaricio will know that it's a good address. Then again, my e-mail address gets around a lot already (the @#$%&), so it probably isn't a big deal to have another spammer with a guaranteed target...

I'd let sleeping dogs alone. No need to take the chance of getting on another spammer's list or getting mixed up with a crazy person.

It is a very common fake phishing email.

Similar emails threaten postal investigations for non-delivery, etc.

Forward all such emails to spoof@ebay.com with headers and eBay will send you back an email confirming it was a spam, plus they will add it to their database.

Do not answer them or click on links in them.

Seems to be a common new fraud/spammer tactic... been all the sudden getting the same sorts of e-mails. You don't reply, I give you bad feedback - etc... First one I got - I was like, woah - what did I miss on ebay?

Anything like that - just log into your ebay account. By typing in the URL in your browser... clicking on a link in those e-mails will likely take you else where, as they use html embedded behind text of what is made to appear to be the ebay link.

And really - the case with all e-mails like that... if any doubt - just log in to your account manaully entering the URL for the bank, etc... never click a link in those e-mails... if there is really something up, you'll know when you log in and check your account status page.

I'm tempted to create a username "Brian Frydenborg" and post here asking about my phone. :-)

what the heck happened to this thread? I can't see the first couple posts, and the formatting is wonky on the first one that I can see.

I got banned from a forum years ago for pulling a similar stunt like that (although a bit more devious...). We'll see if Mr. Frydenborg the dogsitter shows up...
