G3 and G4- Buh Bye...

Dang. Just looked at the specs for iWorks and iLife. iWorks- G4/500GHz/DVD Min (My Sawtooth is out of the pic.). iLife, Intel /G5.

Oh well. I didn't expect it anyway- the new software usually needs newer hardware. Heck, I still got waaay more live out of my old Mac hardware than the equivalent Wintel box. My old Dell 8100 barely runs Win 2000, and the equivalent era iBookSE runs OS 10.3 handily.

From the iLife 08 spec. page.....

System Requirements

* Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor.

There are some higher requirements for iMovie in particular.

The iWorks spec page still seems to be listing the particulars for iWorks '06

I booted my Pismo for the '06 versions, into TDM, and loaded it, and it ran just fine after reboot.

...and all that.

...the new software usually needs newer hardware...

That's not usually the case. Many examples of new software spans more than one generation of Macs. Eventually, some new software will need new iron. Eventually.

I have to say I'm impressed that many people *aren't* left out just because their a generation behind.

But I *also* have to say that a G3 is really pushing one's luck. If the latest software and speed aren't needed, then that's a whole different story.
