OT: What is your favorite sauce?
Posted by: bangman
Date: February 02, 2006 03:52PM
I'm eating some delicious chinese pork ribs in black bean sauce. I don't know what it is about it but black bean sauce is just amazing.

What's your favorite sauce?

I'll go back to my ribs and read your replies. Enjoy!

1. Louisiana Hot Sauce
2. plum sauce that you get with Moo Shu from the Chinese restaurant

dmann, I think the sauce you get with MooShu is "Hoisin sauce"(?) It's thick and dark like BBQ sauce right? Maybe they serve it differently in your neck of the woods. In any case... that stuff is awesome.

My fave is the white yogurt Tzatziki sauce served on gyros.
Black bean sauce on garlicky chicken wings is a close second.

There's a thai place in town that has the best peanut satay sauce I've ever had.

3d- you are probably right about the regional thing. Here in Chicago, it is plum sauce! smiling smiley

Ohh Mike Johnson, I forgot about Peanut Sauce. That definitely earns a spot on my list.

3d you're right. That BBQ sauce they use on unagi is pretty good stuff. Must be some kind of soy base. I wonder if it would translate over to pork ribs?

and Hoisin is just a generic Chinese BBQ sauce. It is often a component in other sauces.

Then you ain't living girl!

There is such a thing as too hot/spicy though. If you can't taste what it is on, then that is too hot.

Paradigm "Haute Fudge with Bailey's irish Cream". Throw it on a really good vanilla or other appropriate ice cream.

I love Tabasco sauce. I will put it on anything. I put it on fried chicken, fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, and much more.

I put it on popcorn. I even take a bottle with me to the movies to put on my popcorn there. Told some people at work about this and have converted several others to this new snack treat. They are fellow Heat Freaks. Although I don't think Tabasco sauce is terribly hot, I just like the flavor.

Try Frank's Red Hot. Similar, but not as harsh.

I'll have to admit, I stopped using ketchup/catsup a long time ago. Just not much there in terms of fun.

Lots have people have switched over from ketchup/catsup to ranch dressing.

Tabasco is the ultimate sauce. Put it on burgers for grilling.

Crystal Hot Sauce is good too.

Trappeys Green Jalapeno sauce is great. brush it on or marinade a rib eye and throw it on the grill

Don't forget about Pickapepper sauce on a block of Cream Cheese, served with various crackers. A party hit.

What about gravy? I love texas/louisiana white cream gravy with fresh ground black pepper. Needs to be made in the same nonstick pan you fry the chicken fried steak or chicken in so the drippings will give it flavor.

not to be racist or inflamitory, but what about all the mexican immigrants over the last 20-30 years? You think when they crossed the river they started to crave ketchup?

They in and of themselves must contribute well into the double digits the salsa eating public right there.

And a person eating a portion of salsa consists of a far larger portion than that of ketchup.

So on a quart by quart basis....salsa hands down.

Alfredo. With really good cheese, real cream and butter.

Expect you can't reheat it without breaking it.
