The only way I can continue is to force quit. When I click a news story Safari is redirected to Performance enhancer site and asks to download. Last time I was at the Cleveland WEWS5 news site. TIA

Sorry, no idea what you're talking about. Sounds like you downloaded and installed a bit of bad juju. Not really enhancing the performance, is it?

Track it down and uninstall it.

Nothing got installed. It is a program for windows. I'm on a MacBook with 10.4.10. It causes Safari to go to different page and then asks to download or cancel. Can't cancel and Since I'm on OS X it just locks up Safari and I have to force Quit. I can't close window or command q or quit from menu. Got me stumped. Must be an ActiveX or a Java or something.

Try dumping your History and Cookies. It's under browser/Tools/Internet Options. It may work.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER
sticker on my head and call it a day.
