dream cars, bandwidth warning I'm sure

To some extent I'm living a dream with my current car but there are a few others that still call to me in my dreams. One is a Ford Cobra, maybe a 1966 or so. I could never afford one but a reproduction seems possible for $35-40k I think. I'd never build it myself but buy it ready to go.

A more elusive dream is the ferrari 308GTS. A used one sells for $25-30k which is very doable but it would still be a mid 70's car. Worn out and expensive to own. I googled a bit but haven't had any luck finding a reproduction that can be purchased ready to go.

If I owned the ferrari I'm sure I'd look just like Magnum. :-) So has anyone gone down the kit car path? Like I said, I would never assemble myself I would buy it ready to go. I live in a relatively small town and I've always been concerned about wether or not a local mechanic shop could do maintenance or not.

So post your dream pics and lets waste friday talking about cars!

Dave

Repro Cobras can't be called Cobras.
The Ferrari is okay, a total pain if your over six foot.
A best buddy owned both, the Cobra was the best, sliding sideways up an onramp to the I-40 going east in Albuquerque, NM at 0630 on one of those crisp, clear summer days that only Albuquerque could provide. July 1973.
The dual 4 barrel Holleys cracked wide open, the 427CI Ford sideoiler twisting tons of torque, the sidepipes dumping tons of decibels only inches from my right ear.
I have driven/ridden in faster and quicker cars, but none as visceral! It was like you were directly connected to the car.
I miss you buddy, RIP.

I am enamored of the looks of Jaguar XJS convertibles, but I want a manual tranny, and they imported only a handful into the United States. There are conversion kits, but it's not a project I could take on at this point. Discussed here:

If one did come to light, I'd be sorely tempted.

My dad had one of those, Lux; a white one. And he had it when I was in high school. Good times, good times.

I used to want a '59 Caddy, but I've grown bored with that idea.

As far as a 'car' that I always wanted for an everday car, instead of a garage queen, I pretty much have it. Triple duty as a work truck, tow vehicle, family hauler.

What is the appeal of the trucks? I've driven plenty of trucks and they have all been slow accelerating, bad handling, poor braking, with rides varying from marshmallow soft to jarring hard (not to mention generally horrible gas mileage) They are good for throwing lots of junk in though. Is there something else I'm missing?

Here are my current dream cars. Something old, something new.

Jaguar E-Type Mk I - 1963 design tour de force

Tesla Roadster - electric rocket

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

The Bugatti Veyron, but in a pinch would settle for the Aston Martin Vanquish. Wouldn't say no to the Maybach Exelero either but would look daft in the rubber batman costume methinks, lol.

The only thing that calls to me in my dreams has two legs, hooters and comes in just varying shades of flesh.

The last time I dreamed of a car, I was driving and we were airbound off a mountain road.

First of all, I don't have a desk job, I have to have a truck period. In addition, our lifestyle pretty much demands a pickup. Common sense would be to combine our needs, not have separate vehicles which is not only wasteful, but expensive.

Second, it's a truck. If you're trying to compare it to a luxury sedan, or car in general, you don't get the point and, more importantly, don't need one. Having owned pickups all my life, I can say that they have come a long, long way in comfort and handling. It's not my moms' Lexus, but it sure as hell is a lot better than our RAV4. Which is an underpowered, ill handling little thing which only gets 2 mpg more than my truck.

As for acceleration, I can get a combined truck and trailer weight of ~19k thousand pounds up to 65mph on just about any on-ramp. That's all I need it to do. Torque is what is needed for hauling and towing, not HP.

OK, I want the Tundra that can pull this :

I'd have done twin Yamahas, though.
Just one engine would make me nervous.

If you already have it, it doesn't qualify as a "dream" car.

most of ya know I already have two Corvettes - they are easy to buy, expensive to keep.
Such are any cars that you don't drive full time I guess. HAHA!

Nice to see the mid-year Vette pictured up top. I have several buddies who have those.
Some were bought restored. Others were father/son project cars.

(not sure either of my daughters will want to work on the Vette with dad - but who knows)

Dream Car to me? Probably that freaking fast Bugatti.

Worn out and expensive to own.

And a pain to drive. You *need* the gearbox as it has no low-end torque. Not an "around town" car. You live and die by the tach.

My two dream cars have been mentioned:

and

(Except rather than Tungsten-- White with Blue stripes)

And if I owned either or both of them, they'd still be dream cars-- 'cause I'd be livin' the dream.

No, not once we have enough.

But white with blue stripes would be an elegant improvement.

Now that I don't understand. The autobahn (german for freeway) is about the most boring place you could ever drive a sports car. Straight and featureless. There's no point in having a sports car if that is where you do your driving. Real sports cars are made for the twisty scenic roads.

Lots of roadsters, ricers, and performance cars have beefed up suspensions that let ya have fun in the twisties.. and we have plenty of those roads around the United States.

But less than a handful of places that will let you reach maximum speed -
