You know.... I thought Cat #1 might be confused with the other Cat #1 (all the other one did was put on a hat! Look at the album vs. the photo!).

But since HE is no longer Cat..... THIS is Cat #1.

Nice kitty burkha. Shouldn't the veil cover the nose and mouth? Many people name their cats, instead of just numbering them. Do you have enough cats that it's hard to remember names?

Sunny likes kitties, too. Her previous owners didn't mind her hunting them, and it's been a battle breaking old habits. Whenever I see her looking at one I sternly say "NO!" and she hasn't eaten one since.

Seacrest, I suspect you just haven't met the right cats yet. Most if the ones I've known have been incredibly affectionate-- would basically love to do nothing else than just hang out with you all day long, purr, snooze, and play with you. They are all pretty individual-- some are more social than others.

You know the ones.... the 550 pound cousins that can chew a 240 pound wolf to shreads with one bite, and rip its guts open with its claws, like a grizzly bear protecting it's cubs.

Interesting.... you'd permit your dog (or you fantasize) to kill other pet animals, and that's OK. Your divergence of conscience is one for the books. Too bad there isn't an M.D./Psychiatrist member here on the forum that I'm aware of.

I'd request a posted opinion on your behalf.

I got this dog from an old woman who got her from the pound when she was ~3.5 y.o. The first day I walked out to the mailbox she took off through the woods and wouldn't come back. I came home after calling and searching to no avail. About a half hour later the neighbor lady called saying my dog was on her back porch clawing at her screen door trying to get to her cat. I ran back down the road and leashed her and disciplined her all the way home, and tied her up for days while building a pen for her. Everytime she looks at a cat, I yell at her, and we haven't had any more problems. When I told the old woman about the incident she just blithely said, "Oh yeah, she hates cats."
If she had told me that I would never have brought her home.

Some dogs have an instinctual hatred of cats. This is well documented throughout history, I'm sure you're aware. It's not something I've ever encouraged or allowed. Sunny has learned to stay on her property now, so I let her stay outside at night off her leash. We've had kids stalked by cougars out here, though so far none of them have been attacked, though one adult mountain biker was mauled, so I don't really mind that Sunny chases the big cats away. And I haven't had any more complaints from the neighbors so I think she got the message that the little cats are off the menu.

Believe me this was agonizing for me to deal with to. When I said she would like a cat-a-day I was groaning. The alternative was to take the dog back to the pound. She's great with kids, other dogs, and people in general, and as noted elsewhere on the forum, the big cats are out of control here. Some nights you can hear them roaring in the forest to the West. I've had a large cat snarl at me walking the road at night without a flashlight or the dog. I don't go for walks unarmed anymore.

Btw - the neighbors have lost cats to coyotes, and dogs to cougars, so I guess the feline vs. canine war is not something I'm going to be able to stop. Sorry I struck a nerve. I lost a cat to feline AIDS a couple years ago, and that was hard enough that I haven't gotten another one. Maybe Sunny needs to be exposed to cats more, but somehow I think her mind is made up that they are evil. Ask any naturalist and they'll tell you cats are voracious killers of wild birds. I hope you have better success training your cats to not kill birds. I'm doing the best I can. If you've got other suggestions on how to teach her to love cats I'm open to suggestions. Let me know how that works with your cats and birds.
