2 opticals in a G4 MDD

OK, so I'm about to pull my hair out with this one.

I have one Pioneer 110D Superdrive and the original Combo Drive that came with the G4

What are the jumper settings for each? Does it matter which is on the end of the cable?

I've tried them both at cable select and then what I thought was a slave/master configuration.

The Superdrive seems to work fine, but the combo's behavior is erratic.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks!

I had a similar experience with a Pioneer drive and a Lite-On CDRW. Regardless of jumper settings, I had trouble with the drive in the lower bay. I thought the Lite-On drive was bad until I installed it in an external case and tried it with a different machine, where it worked fine.

I tried the drives set to Master and Slave as well as both set to Cable Select.

Lower bay MASTER, top bay SLAVE.

Never had a problem with any I've ever set up.

Good Luck!

I have a Pioneer OEM -106 in the upper bay, and a Lite On 52 x CD burner in the lower bay, and I think I had to set them as master and slave too.

What is the erratic behavior?

It's been so long since I added my SDs (A Pioneer and a Samsung) that I don't remember the jumper settings.

The only problem I had was with the Pioneer opening every time I booted or restarted, but that wasn't a jumper problem.
