Why didn't Tiger ask for a password when installing Flip4Mac?

I downloaded and installed Flip4Mac in my son's MacBook and it didn't ask for the administrator password before installing. Why is that? I had to to use an administrator password to install on my mom's computer and on my iBook running Panther.

Is there a way to turn off the password requirement? This has me puzzled.

Thanks,
Michael

Because it's got probably got installed in the Internet Plug-ins for just his account, which he has write access to, since it's part of his home directory.

How would that have happened? I didn't do anything different with my mom's computer or my iBook and both of those required the password.

I'm just trying to figure this out.

is he logged in as an administrator, while the other two computers (which required the password) you were logged in as a regular user?

Does your son have admin rights or do you have admin rights and he doesn't?

All computers are logged in as administrators. (I know. You're not supposed to do that but only one person really uses each computer.)

Despite everyone being logged in as administrators, only my son's MacBook did not request a password to install Flip4Mac and I wasn't logged in on his computer. I just downloaded and installed Flip4Mac for him.

The reason I'm so puzzled is because I didn't think you could do that.

Does the suspect MacBook usually require authentication when installing some software?

I installed the latest version and my authentication was required, even though I was logged in as Admin.

It's possible during the setup to *never* require authentication, but that can be a scary way to go.

I know it's asked for the password before because I can't ever remember it. My son always has to tell me what it is. That's what's really strange.

I'll just have to check if it happens again.

Sep 9 22:22:50 MacBook : Package Authoring Warning: Flip4Mac WMV.mpkg authorization level is NoAuthorization but was promoted to AdminAuthorization for compatibility, ensure authorization level is sufficient to install.

I reinstalled it on my MacBook and here is the error log entry. It did ask for my password and installed in the MacHD>Library>Internet Plugins Directory.

Not sure what this means.

I started to think it had to do with my son's MacBook running Tiger and my iBook running Panther but then I remembered my mom's computer is on Tiger, too.

So, nevermind.

I wish their was a way to delete this post.
