OWC Larry, can you answer this please?

From another post.:
OWC Larry Quote.
"And Sonnet also compensates for possible power issues by doing a slight delay between each drive first getting power. They had found that in some fully loaded (max drives, memory, PCI cards) that powering the three additional drives at the same time could sometimes be too much."

Larry, I have installed this bracket in a couple of Macs, and it does not add a slight delay on boot up. Nice bracket, standard SATA cables, and nice custom power cables, but it does not provide a delay. Did they upgrade the hardware with some sort of delay circuit?

Electrically speaking, might a delay to "it" go unnoticed by us mere mortals?

Also... can you link to the product when you get a chance? I assume you are talking about the 3 phase power supply on the G4 upgrade, and if that is the case, it would/could make sense that the is a detectable delay on the switching of the Delta line.

What's throwing me is your use of the term "bracket" - so I'm interested to see which item you're talking about.

Thanks!

this feature was only recently added - within the last 8 weeks. Learned about it at Macworld during a meeting with Sonnet.

What is this about? Coould this information be made useeful to other readers?

I suffer from the same sensitivity that you do. A few nuggets of wisdom were shared with me and I'm "trying" to incorporate them into my life. First, remember that nobody can hurt your feelings unless you let them. You can always reject what is being forced on you emotionally.
Second, nothing changes unless you change it. If you don't want the behavior to be repeated then you need to take action. Otherwise the kid has learned that his behavior is the way to get things done, because everyone lets him get away with it.
In the meantime I sympathize because I've been there.

The Sonnet G5 Jive allows an additional 3 SATA drives to be added to any PowerMac G5:
[eshop.macsales.com]

It goes without saying - you will need to add a SATA PCI Card:
[eshop.macsales.com]

In some systems that were loaded up it was found that there wasn't sufficient power to handle to simultaneous peak power draw of spinning up the 3 additional SATA drives. At intial power up, HDs draw a lot more power than during normal operation, even more than during intense read/write operation.

So - Sonnet added a delay circuit to the series so that you don't have all three of the additional drives peaking at the same time at power up.

The concept isn't too different from some of today's power controllers for home theater that step power the different devices. In that case - makes the difference between your stuff working without issue vs. potentially blowing a fuse.

hope that detail helps.
