Anyone have a no plan cell phone that they like? The kind where you buy a cheap phone and then get 500 minutes that can last 12 months, etc. ? My wife very occasionally needs a cell phone.

T-Mobile has one of the best pre-paids if the service is good in your area. My daughter has it and she got 1000 minutes that last a year for $100. The phone you get will vary in price, but they usually have deals with rebates on their website.

T-Mobile's prepaid is quite good. I used one around boulder and it worked fine.

If I remember correctly, their current offering are pretty good, you can buy a phone or a Prepaid SIM off eBay, then when you get their $100 refill card, it's got 1000 minutes, and is good for a year.

Target has had a 6101 for $99, I don't know if they still have it.


Also, you can get an unlocked phone and a prepaid SIM off ebay if you would want to go that route.

Trust Microchip 13, our resident cellphone expert thankfully. Just do not give that number out. Trying to talk on an incoming call gets stressful when it is a dime a minute for you.

I love T-Mobile prepay, but be careful!

If you fill it with the $100, 1000 minute plan it will last for a year, except when you put in a lower price fill. For Example.:

October 10th 2005, I initiate the $100 fill on my roomies very low use phone. It should last till 10/10/06.

October 25th 2005, she gets a $20 TMo fill card as a gift, I use the card on her account.

January 28th, she tries to use her phone, it states her account is expired.

Called TMo the next morning, I get told by a rep that putting in less than $100 will bring all minutes down to the 90 day use it or lose it timeline, no matter what you had in before.

After a short discussion, I am sent to a specialist where my roomie gets all her minutes back, and reset to expire next year in January.

BGnR, are you saying that the plan changed or that they screwed up? The beauty of T-Mobile's Gold Rewards was that once you reached it, you were there forever. And subsequent refills would all automatically have a one year expiration.

Obviously, that's what you expected to happen and what should have happened. I guess I'm just wondering whether they "fixed" yours to appease you or if they realized they were wrong.

My daughter got the T-Mobile in December 05 and they added the $100 card at the same time. I have since added a $10 card, in January, and it still says her minutes expire in December of 06. Just wanted to post with my experience.

Edit: I just remembered something. We actually got my daughter's phone in November instead of December, so when we added her $10 card it did extend the date her minutes expire by another 30 days, as it is supposed to. Just wanted to make this correction. The $10 card only extends the time by 30 days the higher priced cards extend the time for 90 days. HTH

I think Rusty just hit a glitch

I added time to mine the other day and checked the balance which said it
would expire at midnight that day. I checked back a few minutes later and
it had been corrected. Once you are a Gold customer the minutes expire
one year from the day you add any new minutes.

They may be having a computer problem but FWIW it's the only glitch I've had
and it self corrected within ten minutes

Other than that - I love T-Mobile

Nope, after a few minutes of talking with the pay as you go folk, they flatly stated that is how it works. Right from the mouth of A. Rivas, executive account rep at TMobile. I thought it was a glitch also, till I talked with him.

Dig out an old cell phone that worked on US Cellular, AT&T, or Cingular. Or some friend will have one he's forgotten to throw away.

Call BW and they will activate the phone and give you 35 free minutes. (This promise is buried in the FAQ.) You can buy additional minutes online. Runs 10-15 cents per min.

For a low-minutes user, this is a good deal. The phone appears to operate on the Cingular network.

Only catch: You have to call from that phone at once every so often (60 days, as I recall), to keep the number.

Minutes otherwise do not expire.

I got one for my wife. I charge it every two weeks, because she mainly keeps it turned off.
