4 giger ipod NANO acting up

I hit play, and it just starts scrolling thru all the songs - but not playing.
Just cycles thru all 715 songs on my iPod.

Of course these tunes are from three diff. computers -
Hate to wipe it and start fresh again but could.

Any experience with one doing this?

seems Susan unplugged it without ejecting today

hooked it back up to the notebook.

iTunes has exclamation marks by most of the songs and it wont let me eject it any more....

quit iTunes - now it ejected.
