A message from the Birthday Fairy
Posted by: The Birthday Fairy
Date: October 12, 2007 09:54AM
Greetings mortals

At the beginning of the year I inherited a list of all the lonely forum members who wished that their so-called special day could be announced to a large bunch of total strangers across the globe.

Er....

Take 2:

At the beginning of the year I was given the honour of being the one to inform the Forum whenever one of our wonderful members had a birthday. May I first say what a privilege it is to be that person.

Some of the names were on it as they were on the list from the previous place. Some forum members took the time of the change to use a new name and some members come and go anyway. When a birthday is imminent I tend to search for activity of that member if I don't recognise the name and of course check that they are even members. If no activity or at least activity within the last year is noted I PM them to check they are still there. If no response then they usually get removed from the list. One of my worries was that I would do a jolly announcement for someone who I subsequently find out had died. In any community there will be additions and subtractions and certainly this last year we have had the patter of tiny feet a few times (and I'm not just talking about hamsters). There could also have been some losses.

I can only announce birthdays for people who are on my list and if you wish to be added then just PM me with details. Don't forget that this list is viewed from across the world so make sure the month is spelt so as not to confuse things. You can add whether you are male, female or whatever as occasionally I try to do something appropriate. If you wish for your age to be noted, maybe it will be a special one, then let me know your birth year.

If you are not sure whether you are on the list then below is the latest one I have. Sorry it's not in alphabetical order but just do a search for your name if you cannot be bothered to scroll down.

I will probably send a couple more messages over the next few days referring back to this message to make sure all who wish to be noted get to see it.

I've been asked if I have any help. Well sometimes but it's a bit inconsistent:

I think you can safely take "tevie" off the list.

Let's stick with 'perfect'.

Has been amended on the 'sticky'.

These mistakes are because of my haste to rush out the message. I edited down the main list which has all sorts of interesting information, some of which I hope will form part of my pension. Quality control went out the window it seems.

Eeeeeeeew I'm not sure I want anything "sticky" from the birthday fairy....

Aloha, Ken

“I have developed significant attachments to several members even though I wouldn't recognize them if I sat next to one on a park bench. I'm often tempted when in an airport to walk around, hollering "The Løpe", to see if anyone other than the Homeland Security people will acknowledge me. ” - The Løpe

“Human rights can only be assured among a virtuous people. The general government ... can never be in danger of degenerating into a monarchy, an oligarchy, an aristocracy, or any other despotic or oppressive form, so long as there shall remain any virtue in the body of the people.” — George Washington

“Public virtue cannot exist in a nation without private virtue, and public virtue is the only foundation of republics.” — John Adams

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.” — Benjamin Franklin

"Every single terrible thing you see on Facebook — be it some sort of horrible right wing nonsense or a confusing and annoying product decision — is made in pursuit of growth. Every bit of damage that Meta has caused to the world has been either an act of ignorance or deliberate harm, at many times tweaking the product to make it harder or more annoying to use so that you will log onto Facebook or Instagram multiple times a day and spend as much time on there as possible." OK, what's with the GeneL earache?

More apologies, earache is another member and should have been on the next line. If that had happened with any other name it would have been obviously a mistake but of course it had to be with the one name which makes it look like a description!

I appreciate what you're doing. In fact, I just stumbled across this place last week—you have my name from the old place. Now that I'm here, I finally realize why my interest in the old place had disappeared over the last couple years.

Anyway, your fairy pictures are funny, but don't think for a minute that you can compete with this guy:
