multiple instances of Toast - how?

I've heard you can have multiple instances of Toast running if you have more than one burner. But I can't figure out how to get it to work. I'm burning a data DVD in my internal drive. I fired up my external DVD burner, inserted a disc, but then what? If I double click Toast in the Finder, it just brings the current instance to the front. The only menu options available in Toast are minimize and zoom. Oh, and the Help menu. Everything is greyed out, presumably until the current burn finishes. I'm trying to backup a large (10GB) folder, and figured it would go faster if I could burn more than one at a time.

DP G5, running 10.4.10 and Toast 7.01. (Do I need to upgrade to version 8?)

just copy the application and rename it Toast 1, Toast 2 etc.

Mavic does it this way all the time.

Works like a champ. I do it routinely on my Intel iMac using the internal drive and an external one. I have a second external drive so might try three at a time. Should work.

I think Mavic has done 4 externals, and the internal on a G4 laptop. I will be doing 3 externals and the internal on a MBP.

You are better off scattering them across the various buss. I will be doing FW 800, FW 400 and the 2 USB2 ports. USB uses the processor to control the data flow, and FW uses the FW controller chip. Keep that in mind when deciding how to hook them up.
