I ordered from LA computer, so it won't arrive probably until Monday or Tuesday (I'm off tuesday). Hopefully it will be Tuesday, so I can then spend all day wiping the drives and reinstalling and basically cleaning house. In a geeky way, I look forward to doing that.

It took about an hour. Booted up the install disk, repaired the drive, and did migrate option. Rebooted and repaired permissions. I had a few glitches with Mail, but that is probably because I was using a beta version of the newer app. Took Mail a few minutes to import everything and I had to enter a few email passwords.

Running it on a Mac Pro 2.66 with 3 gigs. Working well so far and no spinning beachballs yet.

Zone says "We are expecting shipments of the Apple Mac OS on or before 10/26/2007"

Guess that's what I get for wanting a deal on the family pack.

It made me reformat my MBP....something about GUID partition. So, I had to back it up and re-partition.

BUT, now I have a clean 10.5 install, and it feels great. This is a 1st gen MBP (CD). I am now going to install on my C2D MBP. The G5 will have to wait for the weekend, as it will take me a long time to verify that everything on there is backed up...

Mine was supposed to be by 10:30 but thunderstorms over Indiana has delayed the shipment. I'd accept it if it was because of the wild fires (I'm in San Diego, but not near any of the fires) but thunderstorms. Sheesh. May or may not get it this afternoon.

Didn't work too well for me.

Did upgrade install. took about an hour.
Did the restart after install and only got blue screen.
Booted back up on the install disk and did repairs and permissions.
Restarted and still the blue screen after the apple logo. same as before.
Now am reinstalling it via archive and install.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Got mine cooking in the PB and took a look at the other side of the box. Nice "new feature" guide. I was stunned there were no "upgrade coupons" thought. 10.5 is truly making Apple history. I can't remember a time when there weren't any useless coupons, and that goes back to OS 7. No Classic, and now no coupons. Sad, but the world is better off.

Ordered yesterday from Apple at 10am on the web with standard shipping. FedEx dropped it off at around 11:30am this morning. It shipped from PA.

Will install after the workday is over.

I'm installing mine now. Typing from my MacBook.

I've got 3 internal drives on the Mac Pro, so I wiped the top drive, and am installing Leopard there. I'm then thinking of using the Migration tool to copy from the second drive. I generally always just reinstall everything from scratch, but I'm going to take a chance with Migration and see how it goes.

One burning question...
Posted by: john-o
Date: October 26, 2007 03:18PM
...for anyone who has it up and running:

Can you take a look to see if they've finally rebuilt Finder in any real way? Seriously, that major component of the OS gives me more heartburn than almost anything else on my system!

Whether or not it's because it's still a Carbon app in Tiger and earlier, I don't honestly know. Seems like I read that somewhere. I couldn't even tell you how to find out whether it still is Carbon in Leopard or not, though I'm sure plenty of you know how and could...

I'm just dying to know if they've finally really fixed the damn program... Updated it to Cocoa or something?

Sorry...

This isn't going well for me w/ my PB 1.25 either. I did an Archive and Install which took about 45min. It booted up fine, normal registration crap, but then it couldn't find my keychain and went meshugge. Beach ball city. I put my ear to where the HD is and could hear it spinning around so I left it for an hour. Came back and nothing so I gritted my teeth and did a hard restart. Beach ball, and can hear the disk spin.

I'm going to let it spin around for a bit longer just in case then restart from the CD. Maybe if I drop in my keychain from the "previous system folder" and do a repair permissions. I read a few weeks ago that one of the things that was holding up 10.5 from going GM was problems with PPC installs. I wonder if they fixed it. I've never had a stubborn Mac install before. Hopefully it will go smoother on my Intels.

Boy, probably not statistically accurate, but the ratio of successful installs reported here so far ain't too good. Hope we're not in for a huge PR disaster, caused by a hastily released not-ready-for-prime-time new OS...

I think if you picked standard delivery; it is going out through the Postal Service (no tracking info provided).

I selected 2 Day delivery and FedEx is supposed to deliver on Tuesday.

Look on the bright side...by the time we get our copies; most of the issues will be documented and workarounds will be posted.

Truth be told; I would rather be installing it right now.

My issue is with the G4. I won't install in the Intels until I can get it up on the G4.

There are some posts on the Apple support board theorizing the beach ball is compliments of our friend Spotlight. I remember Spotlight slowing things down when I installed Tiger, but I don't recall it taking over the entire machine for hours. But I suppose it's a possibility. I'm going to let my G4 sit and spin tonight and check back in the AM.

That could make sense, especially when you think about the fact that it's not only indexing, but also having to create all those thumbnail images of every document that are needed for Cover Flow and Stacks....

Sheesh, I hope that's all it is!

USPS tracking system is worthless. It doesn't get updated until after the package is delivered. Days after the package is delivered.

Got my free t-shirt & Leopard at the Cherry Creek Store (Denver).
Got there at 5:40 PM. The line went fast.
I was going to just get a t-shirt and go buy it at ChumpUSA, but when I phoned, they had a very limited number of copies there.
Installing now.

Looks like MacMall actually delivered today. Zones just sent me my tracking number. I paid extra for 2nd day... supposed to be here tuesday now. I was looking forward today.

I swear they launched on a Friday so complainers would have two days to decide not to call and swamp tech support.
