PSA: Non Profit Computer Recycler in Oregon needs a Logo Design

This is a cut and paste from an email I received from a friend of mine in Oregon who runs a Non Profit Computer Re-Use & Recycling center in Eugene. This grandmother started her "recycling" business in her garage, repairing donated equipment and placing it back into the community by giving systems to families that could not afford to buy a computer, and has grown into the largest electronics recycler in Oregon! She has need of some volunteer design work, if anyone here is interested please drop her a note...

"As a member of the DEQ workgroup that is creating how the new e-waste
recycling law will be implemented in Oregon, I have to say, I am more than a
bit discouraged. I don¹t do discouraged well! In the beginning of 2007, our
Governor issued a proclamation in which reuse is to be promoted in State
agencies, but, the new law is shaping up to be exclusively a recycling bill.
Bill the Cat sez "ACK" to that and so do I!

Myself and other refurbishers in the DEQ workgroup are working to stop the
wholesale shredding of electronics, but, it is a tough battle.

So, to be proactive, and not assume our community would prefer to shred
before reuse, I am looking for a volunteer graphic designer to help us
design a logo that is specific for electronics reuse.
Other refurbishers are
working on this too-especially in CA and Washington, where shredding is the
way it is all going (refurbishers in CA report having to BUY CRT monitors
for the computers they gift to the community. Blasphemy!).

I know there is some fabulous highly skilled graphic designer out there just
chomping at the bit to help us in our media campaign to turn the tide of
shredding!
JUST SAY NO TO SHREDDING!

If you know of anyone who would be interested, or you personally are just
itching to help in the cause, call me! I have examples of what other
refurbishers are starting to do nationally, and I know we could create a fab
campaign that community members will see in their sleep! I see bumper
stickers! Lapel pins! Sew on badges!

Come on and join me in the campaign to stop wholesale shredding of reusable
computers and other electronics! Help me now!

> DID YOU KNOW?
> Reusing just one computer with a CRT monitor saves:
>
> * 30 lbs of hazardous waste
> * 77 lbs of solid waste
> * 147 lbs (17.5 gallons) of water from being polluted
> * 32 tons of air from being polluted
> * 1,333 lbs of CO2 from being emitted
> * 7,719 kilowatts of energy

“I have developed significant attachments to several members even though I wouldn't recognize them if I sat next to one on a park bench. I'm often tempted when in an airport to walk around, hollering "The Løpe", to see if anyone other than the Homeland Security people will acknowledge me. ” - The Løpe

“Human rights can only be assured among a virtuous people. The general government ... can never be in danger of degenerating into a monarchy, an oligarchy, an aristocracy, or any other despotic or oppressive form, so long as there shall remain any virtue in the body of the people.” — George Washington

“Public virtue cannot exist in a nation without private virtue, and public virtue is the only foundation of republics.” — John Adams

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.” — Benjamin Franklin

"Every single terrible thing you see on Facebook — be it some sort of horrible right wing nonsense or a confusing and annoying product decision — is made in pursuit of growth. Every bit of damage that Meta has caused to the world has been either an act of ignorance or deliberate harm, at many times tweaking the product to make it harder or more annoying to use so that you will log onto Facebook or Instagram multiple times a day and spend as much time on there as possible." Non-profits use clip art, unless they are the Catholic church.

Heck, even "For-Profits" use clip art if it means saving a few bucks.

How about burning computers?

She does great work, I got a 7200 off her about 7 years back and it is still kicking ass.
