Printing question: getting ink closer to edge

I recall on some printer dialog boxes that you can sometimes narrow the margin along a 8x11-inch page so that ink/text can run closer to the edge. Is this a function of ones Mac, or of each particular printer? My Xerox 6250 color laser is a great printer, but one edge will not print any closer than 5/8th. I want to try and expand that, but can't see any option that describes this.

I'm guessing that it's a function of each printer, but wanted to ask to see if there was any trick to getting the ink (like on a full-color flyer) closer to the edge.

Each individual printer will have its own default margins. IF your printer will print any closer, it will be somewhere in the driver software - so it *should* be an option within your print window. FWIW - I have also found that sometimes the Mac drivers are less robust than the PC drivers. (Frustrating, I know....)

I've done it within the Page Setup options. Select your printer, then under paper size, select manage custom paper size.

Hey GRim, that was it. simply by widening the default margins in the standard letter size, the ink went to 1/4" all around. Thanks, man.

Lasers have options but I haven't had jets that let you specify. maybe the Canon Bubble did but as another said, each printer co. has their own defaults and there isn't anything you can do about it. Lasers let you get closer in my experience.
