Corporal punishment not working on LaCie...

The problem: my Electron Blue IV 19" monitor's display will snap into a single pixel high horizontal line of laser intensity across the screen. Degaussing doesn't work, neither does turning the thing off and on.

LaCie Tech Support suggested firmly slapping the monitor on its side. This worked the the first couple of days, but it's tolerance of beating has steadily increased over two weeks to the point now where it takes several (SEVERAL) slaps on both sides simultaneously to jostle the insides. This is now happening two to four times a day. My palms are getting rather rosy (at least I haven't heard that this will cause them to grow hair).

Might anyone know what could be causing this (seems that it is a known issue as LaCie was so fast with their slap advice)? Can this be repaired and even if so - where does one take a CRT monitor for repair nowadays?

I'm trying to eek out every last drop of life from this monitor as I still keep reading that the LCDs are just not able to reproduce the color purity of the CRTs (with the possible exception of Eizo and and honorable mention of LaCie - both very pricey (astronomically so for the Eizo)). Color accuracy/purity are vital to my work.

bad solder joint in the analog section.

If you can find someone to look at it on that basis, you can probably fix it cheap.

Not bad solder joint, it is a stuck high-voltage relay, pretty common.

Ah, the old whack the relay trick. (closely related to the thump the solenoid on the starter trick)

BigGuynRusty:

1) Is the high-voltage relay a fixable thing?
2) If it is repairable, is it an expensive repair?
3) Who or where could I take it to get repaired? I mean, I haven't a clue as to where to start. I've heard that because of the high voltage inside a monitor that places like CUSA might not touch it. Would a TV repair shop be the place? (are there still TV repair shops?)

Thanks.
