need 50's outfit for 5yr old

My daughters school is having a "back to the fifties" event and there will be a costume contest for the kids. So I'd like to go all out for my 5yr old daughter. Any ideas where I could get an outfit?

hmmmmm, wouldn't that be like my kindergarten class way back when having a "back to the 1890s" event?

A poodle skirt would be fun!

This is when sewing is convenient: you could make a shirtwaist dress and buy her a belt and bobby socks and put her hair in a ponytail. I can't guess how you'd ever get crinolines (starched petticoats) to get her skirt to poof out the way it should! :-D

Maybe you can get some slacks and cut them to knee length to be pedal pushers.

In a pinch, you could dress her in blue jeans (dungarees back then) with the cuffs turned up, a white man-tailored shirt knotted at the waist, and penny loafers. A hula hoop would make a nice accessory. :-D

Hula hoops were in the 60s. That outfit is for a 50s teenager. the question is what did little girls wear in the 50s.

Okay maybe the hula hoop isn't right but the REST is. I was there.

Is the question what little girls wore in the 50s, or how to dress a little girl for a costume contest with a 50s theme? Little girls dressed like this

but I don't think that sort of thing is going to win a costume contest. :-)

Crinolines! Wow, they aren't cheap.

And do not forget the saddle shoes (or penny loafers) and pony tail!

Also might add a sweater in matching color to the poodle, hung open on the shoulders, with a clasp chain across to hold it in place.

I wore frilly dresses and black cowboy boots with encrusted "jewels".

I carried a play "doctor's bag" everywhere. I wanted to be a vet or a country singer.
