The Circuit City here has a "mistakes" bulleting board. It is never empty.
Almost seems a gimmick to get you there.
I have been known to read it and walk right back out.

Well, the "1 day only" would seem to lend some credence to that price, no?

So, what did they say, is it a Misprint? If so, what is the correct price?

Obviously . . . you see retailers advertising much sought after products in exciting one-day-only sales at =regular price= all the time (?)

Or was it supposed to be a paper shredder and the iMac 'slipped' in there?

And, you couldn't expect a layout person to recognize a ridiculously low price, right? I mean, really, how many of those folks use macs, or even computers at all?

If you were familiar with Fry's Apple product pricing, you'd know that it would have to be a misprint.

Unless it's a trashed demo unit, the most you'll get off Apple hardware is $5. And yes, Fry's advertises Apple hardware at regular prices all the time.

I get hardware for 0.5% above wholesale if I pay by check at a local Mac retailer.

Here's what I'm getting:
-everyone is familiar with Fry's Apple product pricing
-Fry's typically includes Apple products at full retail price on "one day only" sale flyers.

How did I do?

I suffer from the same sensitivity that you do. A few nuggets of wisdom were shared with me and I'm "trying" to incorporate them into my life. First, remember that nobody can hurt your feelings unless you let them. You can always reject what is being forced on you emotionally.
Second, nothing changes unless you change it. If you don't want the behavior to be repeated then you need to take action. Otherwise the kid has learned that his behavior is the way to get things done, because everyone lets him get away with it.
In the meantime I sympathize because I've been there.

The Crap in this is those ads are run by several senior managers before they are printed and distributed. They had every opportunity to fix the mistake.

The mistakes are left there on purpose as several close friends in advertising have told me.

The other trick is to limit the number of units - that usually meams 3-4 at that price.

It's a bait-and-switch tactic, or at the very least it's just poor business. I agree with Ombligo's comments; the mistakes are left there on purpose to bring a bunch of people in.

"No, sorry, that's a misprint on the Apple MAC but I do have this Kraptastic Windows PC with Vista pre-installed for less than $794 and it comes with a free inkjet printer!"

Looks like that Fry's location honored that price for one hour (following quote taken from [www.pbcentral.com]):

"According to the employee we spoke with, customers had lined up at the store before the 8:00a opening (nothing Black Friday-ish like lines around the block), hoping to get their hands on the bargain iMac. Fry's didn't realize the mistake in the newspaper ad until customers showed them the price when they went to make their Apple hardware purchase.

So, for those eagle-eyed customers who saw the ad and headed to Fry's Electronics first thing in the morning that day, they walked away with a brand new 20-inch aluminum iMac for 50% off Apple's retail price. The steal of the century.

The Fry's location honored the price in the ad, even after realizing the mistake, for one hour. After 9:00a, the customers who came in for the deal were notified that the price in the ad was an error, and then the apologies for the inconvenience were given out.

The employee told us they sold quite a number of units at that low price. He even mentioned that the customers joked around, pulling the retail chain's slogan front and center, when they walked away with their flashy new iMacs, quoting, "Your best buys are really at Fry's!" "
