Worst Gift Card

Last year I bought 4 GGP Mall Gift cards. Never again!

1. Only good at stores that take AMEX.
2. The stores ask holder how much is left on it; if you don't know, they won't run it.
3. The stores cannot check to see how much is left on it.
4. The stores cannot run the card to empty it and ask you for other payment options for the balance.
5. Holder needs to call in to get the balance.
6. When I asked my kids about last year's cards, they all have some balance left, and want me to cash them out.

The Mall should be ashamed to offer those pieces of trash.

As I said, Never Again!

I will make my own gift cards. Envelope with cash! (If they behave)

That would be a chain of MALLs. Several malls in my area participate.

3. Stores can check. They won't because they pay a fee when they do. That's why they want you to know the balance before they'll run it.

But, yeah, it blows.

do they also have a monthly fee?

I see those VISA or AMEX gift cards on the checkout line at the grocery store, and the fine print says there is a 6.95 surcharge fee (i.e. you pay 106.95 for a $100 GC) and I believe there is also a monthly fee on some. Why people buy this junk I don't get.

Cash is better, someone might rather pay a bill of buy eyeglasses, etc.

Yes, after the first year, there is a monthly fee, until the card is completely cleaned out.
We'll call it number 7.

I have an amex gift card-- no idea what's left in it. Had to return some stuff charged to it-- giant hassle. The robotic voice jail to check a balance literally takes 15 minutes to get through. next time just don't give me anything . . .
