I got my back entranceway painted this evening . . . it's this stuff:

Instructions say 2 hours to dry (make that six since it's cool in there, maybe 50 degrees), then 24 hours until traffic.
This is a much needed area (I need it more than anyone to access an attic to do further work on the building tomorrow)-- think I can get away with covering the freshly painted surface about 12 hours after painting to get through? I have some huge campaign posters that are perfect for the task-- some sort of corrugated plastic material-- or will they stick?

If it's dry after 6 hours, then you cover it up to protect it from traffic it should be fine.

Or the posters will slow the drying and might stick to paint that feels dry but really isn't. I vote NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'm an impatient guy, and have been saddened by something that I have rushed into service before it was ready. I vote with slbett; be patient this time. IF you can't, put something that will not leave fuzzy cardboard over the area, like a one dollar blue plastic tarp.

The posterboard I described is not cardboard.
Will have to get a sense of how dry it is when I get over there. I received word that the "missing" tenant made it home and apparently in the front entranceway, so there's hope for this to come out really well. There's unfortunately no place to do an adequate job of cleaning out a brush or roller at the building, making it not very economical to approach the same job twice.

Some follow up for anyone who cares . . . finshed painting sometime after midnight, kept area closed off until about 4 the next day, put down posters for another day, removed them tonight-- it came out absolutely perfect.

thanks for the update, although it will be hard to use this info in the future due to the number of variables. still, glad to hear it worked out.
