Any royalty-free instrumental music out there?

I need to produce a short 20-minute informational video for my town's public access channel with iMovie. I am looking for some generic background music for the program. I have absolutely no idea on where to start looking for this stuff, and I don't have the time to create my own.

you might have luck with some of the free garageband loops you can find, as well as perhaps some public domain mp3's. I've been in your shoes many times--need some music for a video program for which there's no money for music in the budget. "Real" production music can be expensive, but unfortunately, I haven't found a lot out there that works well for those lower-budget programs without sounding like utter crap.

good luck

my company purchased some Royalty free Xmas music for
our 'holiday' party...

they asked me to inquire to the company they found since
i knew how to "rip and burn" music from a CD for the 3rd party
duplicator we contracted.

can be copied and distributed freely without feeling bad about it
along with a small disclaimer note on the CD and CD sleeve...

the xmas cd we bought was:

you think that's expensive? try paying $200 track for music used in a :30 local TV or radio commercial. that CD looks like a bargain to me!

Take a look at Sony's Cinescore. At $180. I don't think you can go wrong. Requires Windows 2000 (SP4), XP, or Windows Vista and PC environment.. Don't know about using it on a Mac tho.

Apple gave away some royalty free music tracks to dotMac members a few years back. Some of it wasn't too bad, particularly the Jazz tracks.

I'm often tempted when in an airport to walk around, hollering "The Løpe", to see if anyone other than the Homeland Security people will acknowledge me. ” - The Løpe
