Can Apple Mail do this?

Hi -

I'm trying to integrate everything onto one computer under one set of software. I have a bunch of personal and work email archived, as well as personal and work email contacts.

The problem: my personal and work email are on separate servers. My personal contacts should ALWAYS get mailed by my personal account. My work accounts should always get mailed through my work account. I can set up Evolution to handle both, but I have to choose which server to email half the time - which means every so often, I send using the wrong server. It's not mission-critical, but it is embarrassing.

Is there a way to set up contacts/email so that work contacts are always mailed through server A and personal contacts through server B?

Thanks!

I use different servers depending on account. You should be able to set this up.

I think I understand what you want, and if so, yes its easy. You have two email addresses and want mail sent from each to use their respective servers, ie yahoo account sends using yahoo server and gmail using google server?

In Preferences-->accounts when you add an email address you just add the server in the pulldown menu (Edit Server List) in the Outgoing Mail Server section.

in my experience, it takes a little bit of care and attention. specifying the outgoing mail server may not necessary specify the account sent from.

when i reply to an email, the default sending address is whatever account the original email was sent on. so, if someone sends an email to my .mac addy, my reply will be sent with my .mac address.

when i open a blank email to send, the default sending address can be either my .mac addy or my domain name addy; i haven't really discerned a method to this madness. there's a drop down menu to change the sending email address and i've trained myself to check before i send.

all my mail goes out over the comcast server, btw; i don't even use the email address that came with that account.

graylocks, you can set the default sending address - see prefs "Composing", e.g. Account of Last Viewed Mailbox, or a specific account.
