Hi,

I have an exterior (outside) outlet with a clear plastic cover similar to the one in the picture below. It has 4 spots where the plastic can be removed so that a cord can go through, while still retaining the waterproof aspect of the cover. In the pic, you can see two such openings--though they still have the plastic in place--on the left side.

My question is: how do I get the plastic out? It doesn't seem like it's going to pop-out easily (there's no obvious weak spot or "perforation" or anything). Do I need to use an utility knife and cute it out? Or is there something obvious I'm missing?

You should be able to use a pair of pliers to break it out. Just work it a bit and it should come out.

You should be able to snap out the cutouts with pliers.

I don't know, if it were me, I think I would drill a hole in the bottom. That would keep rain and snow out better than a hole in the side.

There should be cut-outs on the bottom as well. The cover is designed to be mounted either vertically (as shown) or horizontally.

Yeah, I don't know about the one in the picture (it's not the exact type I have), but mine has two holes on the left side, and two on the bottom. I want my wire to go down, so I'll grab some pliers and wiggle it...just a little bit...

Well, pliers did the trick. It didn't come out perfectly smoothly, but at least I didn't break the plastic. Thanks for the help.

Referred to as 'code keepers', as National Electric code requires outdoor in-service connections to be covered, outlet, plug, and all. Sadly, they're too small for a 12 gage outdoor extension cord plug *usually), and the 14 gage has to bend too far over to fit, IMHO.
