Helping a client set up a new Dual 2GHz G5 (okay, not *new* new, but new to him).

Anyway, my initial thought is no, but I'm not sure. Anyone know how to read these specs better than me?

No. I have that card in my dual G5. You'll need an ATI card with a dual-link DVI port. I think that the X800 has that port, but you'll need to check ATI's website to be sure.

Nope, need a 9600 (yes, 9600) or an X800.

Actually, it's a 9650 that you'd need, not a 9600.

Sorry zachdog, the retail version of the 9600 DOES work with the 30" cinema display.

Yes, it will "fit" and work perfect in a Rev. A G5 chassis. The G5 has an AGP 8X slot, and it's a simple installation to do. Just remove the old card (hold the detent/retention tab on the AGP slot pushed upward, away from the bottom of the chassis to release the old card), install the new 9600 Pro, and you're done.

you can use a 9650 as well -- but you will only find them on ebay as a pull from another G5

Probably should have indicated you were referring to the PC/Mac version, Jamie -- or was the original 9600 for the Mac not available in the retail channel?

My bad. You're right. I was thinking of the OEM 9600 cards which do not support the 30" display. Wasn't thinking about the retail version which does.
